October 24, 2020: Number 2
Amy here.
Matthew and I just got back to my hospital room after visiting our girl. I woke up fairly anxious after all that went down last night with her PICC line. My BP was high again, much to my chagrin.
After Matthew got up, we called to see if it was okay to visit Briar before her procedure. When the nurse answered, she was ecstatic. She said that they started the PICC procedure first thing this morning and that it went beautifully. She wanted me to convey that the prayers had worked. Briar’s PICC procedure this morning was one of smoothest that she has witnessed. That news alone was enough to settle us both down a bit. We got around and went over to see her. When we arrived, they were changing her diaper and giving her clean bedding. That alone took three nurses to complete. It’s amazing to see these people in action.
Briar’s doctor came in to see us just as we were about ready to leave. She explained all of Briar’s levels and how they are working to stabilize them. Don’t ask me to retell you any of it. I’m sure I would get it completely wrong. It’s basically a minute by minute balancing act with the levels in her blood. She is stable and the balancing act is to be expected. All I know is...I am definitely not cut out for their job. They are doing amazing work. We are in awe.
She also took time to explain Briar’s brain bleed in a little more detail. It was helpful to hear where Briar is with the bleed. It is also scary to think of what could happen. Basically...we need BIG prayers that the bleed is CONTAINED and hasn’t grown over the last few days. It is highly unlikely that it will have absorbed at all, because Briar’s body is too small to do anything about it. But, it is definitely possible that the bleed has stopped and has not grown since they first found it on Tuesday. Please pray for this specifically. Her doctor plans to order another scan tomorrow. We wanted to write a journal entry with this specific request.
We don’t have much else to report as of now. My BP is still high so we are still on strict rest orders. Today, we are thankful for a few minutes to relax in the calmness. We are letting Briar take a snoozie or two, just like her Papa would say. A little napping always does some good, right? :)
Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, for your prayers and support! We serve a mighty God!
